Coaching is arguably the main service that we offer to our clients, all of whom are offered a diagnostic coaching session with a Planning and Operations Committee member when they request support. If we think a client would benefit from further coaching, we offer them up to three one-hour sessions with one of our coaches.
Who are we looking for?
If you are based in the Macclesfield area and have experience of running a business or social enterprise, have worked for an employer in a leadership role (perhaps as a line manager or a project team leader) or you just feel that you have the skills required to be an effective coach, then we’d really like to hear from you.
Importantly, we are looking for people who are enthusiastic about helping local enterprises to succeed and thereby contributing to making Macclesfield a better place to do business.
What does coaching for Enterprising Macclesfield look like?
Coaching in Enterprising Macclesfield is a supportive role charactertised by conversations, with our clients, that necessarily have a short-term focus (we are not a consultancy). It is all about helping the client build self-belief through unlocking his/her potential and developing his/her awareness and sense of responsibility for making progress.
Coaching requires good listening skills, a non-judgemental approach and an ability to ask thoughtful questions in a non-threatening manner.
By coaching we do not mean providing advice, mentoring, training or sponsoring. We ask our coaches to be a confidant, objective and to enable our clients to make informed decisions for which they feel ownership.
What’s in it for me?
Being a coach for us gives you a unique opportunity to further develop your coaching and leadership skills. It will also help to broaden your experience and may well be worth a mention on your CV!
You will have the satisfaction of helping local people progress their business ideas and knowing that they have benefitted from your intervention as a coach.
What level of commitment will be required of me?
That is entirely up to you; all that we ask is that you give us an indication of how frequently you are prepared to take on a coaching assignment. We do not expect you to take on more than one client at a time, unless you wish to do so.
If you agree to take on a coaching assignment with a client, then you will undertake up to three one-hour sessions over a period of time that you agree with the client. From our experience the preparation for each session takes typically one to two hours. The administrative tasks after each session should take no more than half an hour.
How do I become a coach for Enterprising Macclesfield?
The first step is to register your interest. A member of the Planning and Operations Committee will contact you to arrange a face-to-face or phone meeting to answer any questions you may have and to understand the particular skills and experience that you will bring.
Before joining the coaching pool you will be given a briefing on coaching and our client management process so that you are fully aware of what is involved.
