CrossFit Silk successfully launches new facility in Macclesfield
Doug Reay originally approached Enterprising Macclesfield having spotted a gap in the market for a CrossFit business in Macclesfield. At that time, the nearest accredited CrossFit box facility was in Congleton or Altrincham. Doug had successfully assembled a high calibre team with expertise and recognised accreditations in this specialist area. CrossFit is a branded fitness regimen that originated in the United States and is based on a programme of constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity to improve fitness and health. Unlike many gym fitness programmes, CrossFit fosters a community style approach to fitness with groups exercising together at different levels of capability in the same session.
Doug was acutely aware of the statistics on the number of start-ups that fail in their early years of operation. So he was keen to get some external input to ensure himself, Candice, Chad and Liz had considered every aspect of managing the successful execution of their business.
Enterprising Macclesfield met with Doug initially to gain an understanding of his business idea, his goals for the business and to establish what was needed to make the venture a success. Phil Cole, Enterprising Macclesfield’s coach, worked with Doug to map out the business model in more detail and highlighted any issues which the team would need to address prior to launch. “I was quite confident in the business opportunity and the service we could deliver. But when you discuss your business idea with family and friends, everyone can be very excited and encouraging about the opportunity,” said Doug, “having access to Phil, as an independent sounding board was hugely valuable to me and tightened up our business plan a lot”. Through Enterprising Macclesfield, CrossFit Silk gained access to local advisory partners in accountancy, law and marketing prior to setup.
CrossFit Silk has had an exceptionally strong start to the business. In December they launched their new website and commenced a social media marketing campaign to build momentum around their planned opening in January. Behind the scenes work was progressing at a pace in refurbishing the building at Lowe Street in Macclesfield, setting up the facilities and installing the specialist equipment. In their first month they successfully filled many of the training sessions and signed up new members. “This is a fantastic facility for Macclesfield, said Phil Cole, “as you enter you immediately get a real community feel, with sessions created to suit families and dedicated supervised crèche facilities. We are delighted to see the success they are enjoying and we hope to see them go from strength to strength.” CrossFit Silk are ambitious to build on this strong start. As well as the CrossFit facility, Lowe Street now houses a purpose-built reformer pilates and rehabilitation studio – Inner Strength – offering specialist training and small group classes. “Our goal is to develop a full wellness facility here and ultimately to develop tailored membership packages for the corporate sector, as this is a superb team based development opportunity.”
“The team at Enterprising Macclesfield are highly experienced and provided a lot of value to our business. They have an excellent business network which we were able to tap into to ensure we could give our business the best possible start.”
“We thought we could bring something to the local community that was exceptional, that was different to anything else in the area, and that could make a real difference in peoples’ lives. Thanks to the team at Enterprising Macclesfield we can see that dream becoming a reality.”
